Realizing the lack of emphasis on entrepreneurs at its Digital Agenda, the EU finally launches a consultation to hear the views of tech entrepreneurs about embracing startups, in order to define the exact framework on how to support them.
As it is announced, one of the Digital Agenda’s Priorities is now to “strengthen the environment for web entrepreneurs in Europe, facilitate the increase in the number of web startups, as well as support their growth”. With a budget of approximately 80 billion, the EU’s new programme for research and innovation, called Horizon 2020, is becoming a serious priority.
Thus, the EU now invites entrepreneurs to “share ideas on any actions in the area of ICT Innovation for the benefit of web based entrepreneurship/web businesses, as well as business environment aspects”.
Some examples the Commission suggests include grants to new companies, assistance for the growth of startups, creation of online networking platforms, and support of startup acceleration programmes in Europe.
Furthermore, the Commission is asking people for a brief description of their idea, along with an idea of the budget they think would be needed for it to have an impact on Europe and why they think it is important for tech startups in Europe. Together with this, they obviously want people who suggest ideas to include who they are or who they represent.
