It was almost a year ago that we mourned the tragic loss of Professor Christos Nikolaou, following complications from an urgent surgical procedure.
Christos Nikolaou was not just one of the leading scientists in his field, and a great educator whose tenure led credence to the University of Crete and its then young Computer Science department, but also a personal friend and business mentor.
Christos supported StartTech’s progenitor (and Dimitris Tsingos first startup venture) Virtual Trip, from its very early steps, with his advice, his contacts, his research collaboration and his encouragement, and stood beside our team in the role of Non Executive Chairman, lending us his support and his reputation.
Of course, in his long and significant career, Christos Nikolaou influenced, helped and inspired many more people.
As an official recognition of this, the Christos Nikolaou Memorial Ph.D. Award was established to honor Professor Nikolaou’s career-long contributions in university education and research.
The Award Committee asks talented graduates of Ph.D. granting institutions world-wide who recently completed their Ph.D. in the area of service-oriented computing to apply for the Christos Nikolaou Memorial Ph.D. Award 2016, noting that the award is not only an honor and distinction but is also associated with 2000€ for the awardee.
Applications should include a 2-page essay that highlight in a clear, simple, and precise manner the originality, contributions, and impact of the Ph.D. Thesis of the applicant, and must be signed by both, the applicant and his/her Ph.D. advisor, who in this way nominates the applicant for the award.
The application must also include the PDF file of both the Ph.D. Thesis and the Ph.D. certificate issued by the university that indicates the completion of the studies and the satisfaction of the requirements for the doctoral degree.
