Are you an undergraduate, graduate or post-graduate at the University of Crete’s Computer Science Department (CSD)? If yes, then read on, as this post is especially for you. The final countdown has begun for the 1st CSD Graduate Students Conference which will take place on Friday, October 25. Save the date!
And from our side we’re proud to be a Gold Sponsor on this great event. When it comes to startup and academic communities – and mainly those related to technology and innovation – we’re keener than most to be involved in every possible way. As well as participating in the event program ourselves, we’ll also be providing the refreshments for breaks and lunch break supplies. It’s not a good idea to immerse yourself in computer science and try to be creative on an empty stomach.
And of course, Crete has a special place in our hearts as a company, since our CEO and Founder Dimitris Tsingos also graduated out of the university’s CSD. Yes that was almost 20 years ago but if you ask Dimitris, it still feels like yesterday. 🙂
“The roots of Starttech Ventures lead back to the academic and research ecosystem in Heraklion, Crete!” says Dimitris.
“Our founders have been blessed with studying at the University of Crete and researching at FORTH. It’s not surprising that several successful companies were born there and chances are that many more will soon follow. We are then committed to support all initiatives boosting the research, academic and entrepreneurial community in Heraklion. Supporting this awesome conference is just one of the first steps in what we envision to be a long, creative and fruitful journey.”
That’s why we try to stay close to this academic community and help young students and aspiring entrepreneurs in any way we can.
So, what’s the occasion?
You may or may not know but the University of Crete’s CSD ranks #1 in Greece, and #351 out of 400 similar institutions worldwide, according to Times Higher Education (THE). The leading publication in higher education news and issues classifies the university among the first class of research-intensive universities with high performance in teaching, research output, knowledge transfer, and international outlook.
And this conference aims to bring together all the members of CSD community to give them the opportunity to exchange ideas, to share their knowledge and experience. Above all, it will be an enlightening experience for students and graduates alike, especially those who are trying to find their bearings in a career field.
