Our story

Our journey began in the fall of 2000, not in a glossy startup hub, but in the basement (quite literally) of the Science & Technology Park in Heraklion, Crete. That’s where we founded Virtual Trip, a student-led initiative that dared to dream big. Looking back, the fact that it survived, and grew, feels like a small miracle.

Virtual Trip wasn’t just a company. It was a community driven by shared values, passion, and a hunger to build. Over time, it evolved, matured, and gave birth to what is now Starttech Ventures. And we never forgot where we came from. That’s why every year, we honor our roots through the VTripper of the Year award, a tribute to the extraordinary people who shaped our path and continue to inspire us.

Building companies that matter

We’ve come a long way since those early days. Today, Starttech Ventures is a venture builder and early-stage investor with a clear mission: to help founders build companies that matter. 

We believe that a company can belong to its people. That high-tech innovation can and should flourish in Greece. And that entrepreneurship, fueled by creativity and collaboration, can change lives, including ours.

From milestones to momentum

The road has been long. But we now look around and see the results of that journey: successful ventures like Epignosis, Yodeck, and AbZorba Games; a growing angel investment portfolio that includes companies like Tolstoy, ORamaVR, Lifebit, and Elorus; and a new generation of founders building the future from right here in the Eastern Mediterranean.
